FOR REFERRERS

Assessments that Create Understanding and Dialogue

Evaluating a person’s driving ability is both sensitive and challenging, as the results of the assessment can have significant consequences for personal freedom. Losing the ability to drive can be restrictive and make daily life difficult to manage.

The assessment is also complex as it requires a comprehensive evaluation, taking into account a range of factors to ensure traffic safety for both the individual and others.

In our assessments, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the cognitive and motor skills that are essential for safe driving, in accordance with the Swedish Transport Agency’s regulations. This includes reaction time, attention, endurance, impulse control, and information processing. Practical driving assessments are carried out in real traffic environments to observe the driver’s behaviour.

In our work, we place great emphasis on ensuring that the person undergoing an assessment understands what will happen and why. We go through the results together. The aim is to create understanding both for the assessment process and its results. A referral from a doctor is required to attend an assessment.

In addition to assessments, we also offer advice and support regarding adaptations and solutions in vehicles. A referral from a doctor, occupational therapist, or physiotherapist is required for advice.

Västra Götaland Region

Mobilitetscenter has had a contract with the Västra Götaland Region since 2006. Initially, the contract was for a procured service, but in 2017 it was replaced by an agreement for Civil Society Public Partnership (IOP). This agreement focuses on being a resource for medical driving questions for organisations and citizens in the region, with collaboration, communication, and expertise as tools. Mobilitetscenter has qualified staff and advanced technical resources to provide support to organisations and residents in the region and to conduct medical driving assessments. The IOP agreement with Västra Götaland Region was renewed in 2021 and is valid from 2022-2026, ensuring greater long-term collaboration with the region. Other regions can also utilise the contract according to the conditions of the “National Agreement for Out-of-County Care”. The home region is then invoiced by Västra Götaland Region for the assessment carried out at Mobilitetscenter.

Försäkringskassan

Mobilitetscenter previously had a contract with Försäkringskassan for a procured service. In 2020, Försäkringskassan decided not to extend the contract, and the previous procured service is now a state task with the Swedish Transport Administration. Mobilitetscenter continues to receive inquiries from private individuals regarding car support and has limited ability to provide support within the IOP agreement with Västra Götaland Region.

Driving Fitness Assessments

A referral from a doctor is required to initiate an assessment at Mobilitetscenter. The referral response forms the basis for further handling of the driving licence issue. Under “Forms,” you will find fillable referral forms. There are different forms depending on the type of assessment needed. You may also use a general referral if such forms are used in your practice, but we recommend following our templates to ensure sufficient information. Missing essential information will require supplementary details, potentially delaying the processing time.

We review all incoming referrals, and confirmation of receipt is sent to both the referrer and the patient.
