Assessments that Create Understanding and Dialogue
Assessing a person’s driving ability is both sensitive and challenging because the outcome of the assessment can have significant consequences for daily life mobility.
The assessment is also complex as it requires a comprehensive evaluation that considers various factors to ensure traffic safety for both the individual and the surroundings.
The assessment includes a thorough evaluation of the cognitive and motor abilities essential for safe driving in accordance with the Swedish Transport Agency’s regulations. This includes reaction time, attention, endurance, impulse control, and information processing. On road assessments are conducted in real traffic environments to observe the driver’s behaviour.
We place great importance on explaining the purpose, content, and results of the assessment to the person undergoing it. Family members are always invited to be present during the assessment. This is to create understanding and acceptance of the outcome. A referral from a doctor is required to initiate this assessment.
Assessment of Medical Fitness to Drive
The assessment determines whether an individual can continue to drive safely following a medical condition affecting cognitive or motor abilities.
Assessment for a Learner´s
Permit
This assessment provides the basis for a medical certificate for driving license permit and is carried out following a referral from a doctor.

Mobilitetscenter has had a agreement with the Västra Götaland Region since 2006. The agreement focuses on being a resource in medical driving-related issues for organizations and citizens in the region.

Driving Fitness Assessments
A referral from a doctor is required to initiate an assessment at Mobilitetscenter. You can find fillable referral forms under “Forms.” There are different forms depending on the type of assessment requested.
We review all incoming referrals, and confirmation that the referral has been received and accepted is sent to both you as the referrer and to the patient.
Advice on Adaptations
For advice and support regarding vehicle adaptations, a referral from a doctor, occupational therapist, or physiotherapist is required. You can find fillable referral forms under “Forms.”
