Assessing medical fitness to drive following an injury or illness involves a comprehensive evaluation of your cognitive and motor skills. The assessment may include tests of reaction time, attention, impulse control, and information processing. If the initial tests show potential, you’ll undergo a practical driving test in real traffic. This evaluates your driving ability in relation to the Swedish Transport Agency’s medical requirements. The driving assessment can be done in a car with either automatic or manual transmission. A referral from a doctor is required to initiate this assessment.
