Assessment for Provisional Driving Licence

To begin driving lessons for a car or moped class I (EU moped), a provisional driving licence is required. A diagnosis or disability may require the application for a provisional driving licence to be supplemented with a doctor’s certificate confirming that you meet the medical requirements according to the Swedish Transport Agency’s regulations. At Mobilitetscenter, we assess cognitive and motor skills to investigate the prerequisites for obtaining a provisional driving licence. Your needs and the doctor’s questions determine the cognitive and motor test materials used during the assessment. You will be asked to perform several tasks that test your attention, reaction time, ability to follow instructions, concentration, impulsiveness, endurance, and/or motor skills. We do not use tests that require prior knowledge of traffic or traffic theory. A referral from a doctor is required to attend an assessment. After the assessment, your doctor will receive a report from Mobilitetscenter, which will serve as a basis for the doctor’s certificate to the Swedish Transport Agency.

What about mopeds?

A class II moped (up to 25 km/h) is a moped designed for speeds up to 25 km/h with a motor that has a power output of up to 1 kilowatt. No provisional driving licence is required for class II mopeds. To obtain a driving licence for a class II moped, you must be at least 15 years old, have completed a training course, and passed a knowledge test with an approved instructor.

To drive an EU moped, EPA tractor, or moped car, a driving licence with at least AM authorisation is required, and before training for AM can begin, a valid provisional driving licence is necessary. The medical requirements for lower categories of driving licences must be met for the Swedish Transport Agency to grant this permit. These are the same medical requirements as for a regular car driving licence.
